A Wrestling Conundrum In this arc we explore John and Iris' wrestling hobby! John and Iris' dynamic with each other is considerably different in the ring. As the wrestling company owner mentions, they are often at odds with each other. What with Iris being a bad guy and John being a rule keeper. They never had to wrestle each other, in fact, John's never wrestled a day in his life. So you can understand Iris' concern. She loves wrestling but she cares about the safety of her best friend a lot more. Perhaps a week of training will help set her worries at ease?

We're all thinking it. D'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw
@Stephen: <3
Aww that's so sweet Heheheh I know she's a big ol' softy. I love this dynamic between them.

Well as long as they stay on soft surfaces it's OK. But that's definitely an unusual gimmick!

The boss seems like a real jerk.
@sethtriggs: Hehe me too, I absolutely love writing for them!

The surfaces of wrestling rings aren't the softest but they're certainly softer than say pavement or concrete. John will mainly be training in taking hits and falling back on the ring safely, which is essentially wrestling 101. The whole 'wrestling referee' gimmick was rarely used but it did happen every once in a while in professional wrestling.

And yes, the boss is definitely a jerk. XD
@sethtriggs: do you know of the an owner of a wrestling league that isn't a giant...jerk
@Xero: LOL good point, good point.

This is quite a novel concept!
Only a week? I feel like they took the wrong approach, here. The guy was clearly gonna put them in a fight whether they like it or not, but a week is not *nearly* enough time for John to figure out what the hell he's doing in the ring. If they'd thought to negotiate, John and Iris could have pointed out "Hey, if you give us time to train, that means we can put on a better show, *and* it lets you build up hype, **and** it means I might not get maimed. We'll fight, but can it wait like, 3 or four weeks?"
@Goodpie2: I actually agree with you. Realistically speaking, a week isn't nearly long enough to what's really needed to be at least get moderately adept in the ring. John knows very well he could have asked for more time, he was more than justified. However he's a goof. He wants to make everyone happy if he can, despite his best interest or even his own safety. And even for jerks who give unrealistic time frames.

It's one of the many reasons Iris is worried sick about this whole ordeal and was quick to even dismiss the thought of going through with it. John is confident that his referring will give him enough of a leg up to at least take lots of hits and not get killed in the ring. Whether or not his confidence is well-placed? Well now, that remains to be seen!

As well meaning as John is. He doesn't always make the best decisions.
Cruising for a bruising? @Jim Nickabocker: Heh this might hurt, but we'll see. I'm really, really curious to see what happens.
